The work on Black Ponds started in 2012 with a poem called Pond Sequence. This contributed to a collaboration with the Department of Surgery & Cancer at Imperial College London that involved the images of a patient on their back in a hospital operating theatre. The work drew from materials in human physiology and in archeological research into peat bogs and their chemistry. The work subsequently developed through drawing and painting during 2016-17 in bogs at Cors Caron, Tregaron and at Waen Ddu, Llangattock.
